Australian officials say that they are confident that they are searching for the missing Malaysia Airlines flight, MH370, in the right area. New analysis of data shows that the plane is likely to be in the southern end of the Indian Ocean search zone, which is where the operation will now be focused. MH370 was en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing when it disappeared in March 2014.

Part of an aircraft wing, a flaperon, was found on Reunion Island in July. Reunion Island is roughly 4,000 kilometers from the search zone. Tests in France confirmed that the flaperon belonged to the missing Malaysia Airlines flight, but it was likely carried there by ocean currents. The entire operation for finding and retrieving the plane is estimated to cost 131 million US dollars.
